Frequently Asked Questions About Jesus of the East
Q: Phuc, if I’m not a Christian, what will I get from your book? Is it relevant to me?
A: Short answer is YES!
I cannot emphasize this enough. I often speak and post about the gospel-oriented messages of the book, but I did not write an instructional book for “Christians only”! I wrote a book seeking to critically look at theological history and how to decolonize our mindsets. If the gospel is really “good news” it should be good news to those who are especially hurting and wounded by our world, not only Christians.
Jesus of the East is for people who want to break apart the history of Christianity in America (how it became a colonized religion), and more than that, who want to engage in critical discussions and action regarding liberation and fighting oppression. The book explores social justice as much as it considers the gospels. Plus there’s a nice dash of memoir as I detail my own immigration history.
If you don’t consider yourself a follower of Jesus, I hope you’ll still consider picking up the book. The impacts of Western Christianity does not just affect affect Christians. This is a dialogue that involves everyone.
